Excellent. My desktop did not disappear or become hopelessly locked. This is a plus. On the other hand, although the terminal spacing is back to single line from double line (good) the font has regressed back to where it was (in particular an 'm' looks identical to an 'n' (bad). When I tried Red Carpet under the August build as a regular user I started to encounter what others reported - it didn't run from the icon. It did work as superuser (a shell from the terminal) running 'red-carpet'. However it then did a new trick and tried to sell me premium services, which I wouldn't even dream of considering unless a stable gnome-2 environment were available from the installer - I just dug around until I could run the 'low price spread'. Tacky. Maybe this relates to folks problems with Ximian. Since I've just installed Mozilla 1.2a alpha for Linux and composing this using it I am somewhat mollified. Jakob is doing a great job but I can't believe he's the only developer of gnome-2 for Ximian.
