Note that I've been running Xft2/fontconfig built from XFree86 sources directly for quite a while with the Ximian snapshots. The only problem I noted was the gnome-terminal problem previously mentioned, now fixed. So using them should, if they've been built correctly, be perfectly OK. Note that Fontconfig has its configuration file in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf; this is different than Xft1's /etc/Xftconfig file. It also automagically detects when you install new fonts if they are in the directories (or subdirectors of) those mentioned in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf. Xft2 updates Xft1 to use /etc/fonts/fonts.conf; once installed, your font configuration is in the new configuration file, not the old. - Jim -- Jim Gettys Cambridge Research Laboratory HP Labs, Hewlett-Packard Company [email protected] > Sender: [email protected] > From: Jacob Berkman <[email protected]> > Date: 19 Sep 2002 11:59:05 -0400 > To: [email protected] > Subject: extra packages in red hat 7.2 channel > ----- > if you're on rhl 7.2, there may be some extra packages showing up (Xft, > fontconfig, etc.). these are being added to the channel in order for > the tinderbox machine to build gnome HEAD. > > i don't recommend installing these packages at this time, until a build > goes out using them. > > - jacob > > > _______________________________________________ > gnome-2-snapshots maillist - [email protected] > http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/gnome-2-snapshots _______________________________________________ gnome-2-snapshots maillist - [email protected] http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/gnome-2-snapshots
