After performing the downgrade, mentioned below, I can use Gnome 2 again. Had to tell Gnome that it had to start gnome-wm, but after that. Seems to be working again. Thanks Michael, Arjan P.S. If this works for you please let others on gnome-2-snapshots know as I'm not subscribed.
