Thanks. I feel like an idiot. Fixing things in gnomecc did it, or taking Heath Harrelson's suggestion of editing .gnome/Gnome would have done it too, I think. I'm so dense that I looked at that file three times and still didn't see the problem until I thought "wait, maybe since Galeon is the default for some useless protocols (cough, http, cough), I'll write a script called galeon that runs Mozilla" Anyway, problem solved and I'm red in the face. Thanks for all your help. Neil p.s. -- it would be nice if something, somewhere emitted a "galeon: program not found" error :-).
