My guess: the installer includes a statically linked library for http
transfer which is known to have had race bugs, and it hasn't been built
against a new version for some time. It's possible this race bug
resulted in a corrupted file, which the installer recognized as
corrupted and refused to install.

There's a good chance that trying the install a second time would work.
You might want to rm -f /var/cache/redcarpet/packages/gnome-system-
monitor* (to make sure it doesn't try to use the corrupt one again).
