Re: [Evolution] evo 2

one of the issues that i'm dealing with of late has come directly out of
the new relationship between ximian, suse, and novel. 

now before i say anything i know this is a good relationship. i think
what this group has to offer is very valuable.

but it seems to have come at a price. 

like i said in an email a few days ago, there has been a shift in the
linux community. what used to be a focus on everything being
cross-distro is now settling down on one or two. now that's totally
understandable albeit disappointing. it's understandable because at one
point i remember there being like 100+ different distributions out there
(remember peanut linux anyone?). it's disappointing because my distro of
choice and my desktop of choice aren't necessarily compatible anymore. 

it used to be, when i was running red hat, that i could (after an
install) open up a terminal as root, run the command to get and install
ximian gnome and everything was glorious. then i could easily install
the very latest evolution via red carpet. 

not so anymore. at least not with Fedora Core.

i guess it's all about choice though. i could opt to switch over to suse
but i've bene using red hat for nearly 10 years now so that's not really
ideal. i could of course just keep upgrading to the latest FC release. i
might do that soon enough.

i guess the point of this is that i really, really like evolution and
ximian gnome. i hope to be able to return to them someday. i hope it
doesn't mean leaving my favorite distro behind. 

never the less - the tools are awesome. even using an older version of
evo i still feel ahead of the game in comparison to anyone using
anything by MS. 

i hope this didn't come off as harsh because it wasn't meant to. just an
observation. 'tis all.
