I can help with this, as I've successfully transferred all of my Outlook contacts into Evolution. First, a little background on my set-up. Yours may differ. I have two hard drives, one with Windows and one with Linux. I've got lilo set up to dual boot, so I can go from one system to the other. I also have mounted the windows drive onto the Linux filesystem so I can read and copy files from the Windows system onto my Linux system. If you have something similar you can follow my directions pretty much verbatim; otherwise, you can easily modify them to fit your circumstances. By the way, I'm using Debian, but I've also used this technique successfully with RedHat. 1. First, you need to export your contacts in Outlook. You should find the option to export under the 'File' menu. Save the exported file as DOS 'comma separated values' with a .csv extension. Save it as 'contacts.csv' in your 'My Documents' folder or where ever you'd like that you'll remember. 2. Boot into Linux. 3. Mount your Windows drive/partition and cd to /My Documents. Copy (cp) the 'contacts.csv' file to your home directory in linux. 4. Now, back in your linux home, use the command 'csv2vcard' as follows: [commandline]$ csv2vard contacts.csv contacts.vcf This will create the vcard file in your home directory. Double-check that it's really there, if you're paranoid like me. 5. Now open Evolution. Open the import wizard found under 'File.' You want to import a single file, with the vcf extension. Find your file, import it, and you're in business! > Message: 2 > Subject: Re: [Users] Importing contacts into Evolution > From: guenther <[email protected]> > To: Andrew Gray <[email protected]> > Cc: [email protected] > Date: Fri, 01 Oct 2004 16:57:07 +0200 > > No reply yet, thus some hints: > > > I want to import contacts from MS Outlook - I read how to do this on the old > > Ximian support site, something about a program to convert from the MS > > format, but I can't find it again. > > > > Anyone got a link to the instuctions? > > Unfortunately not. > > But you might want to try googling for it.
