Evolution 2.0 can't embed images as <IMG>

Hi,
In Evolution 1.0, I could embed images by clicking on the Image tool bar
icon and type in "http://whatever.com/image.jpeg", click OK, save the
draft message and be able to see the embedded images (as <IMG> tags)
rendered in the Draft folder.
I have used this method to send messages containing lots of big images
without getting bounces from my recipients. For example, this message is
barely 4 KB in size, instead of 40 KB, despite the following image
embedded as <IMG> (by editing the Draft folder in a text editor in
Evolution 2.0).
In Evolution 2.0, the dialog box opened after clicking on Image tool bar
icon provided no text-edit field to accept an URL and transform it into
<IMG> tags. I consider this a backward step.
I found the following quote only when I googled.
http://vlad.neosurge.net/archives/2003/04/17/xhtml_20_migration.php
<img /> has been dropped, replaced by <object>...</object>. As
we'll see in next month's article, this may present some serious
migration difficulties.
Is this very useful feature removed? Is there a workaround for it?
I hope to see it being supported again and supported better than
Evolution 1.0 by rendering it properly when in Compose-message window.
Is this possible? If yes, should some kind of tests be developed so that
this feature would not be dropped again in the future releases?
Thank you.
