Upgrading to Gnome 2.6

Folks.

What's the path of least resistance to upgrading my RedHat 9/Ximian 2 
desktop to Gnome 2.6? I haven't had luck with the packages in the 
xd-unstable channel. (I was presented with a blank desktop after my 
initial upgrade attempt.)
