This is a good way of saying it. Another is "continuously-rolling beta."
I just LOVE how Debian fans rave that unstable is actually "pretty
stable." When I tried it for my desktop after Red Hat pulled their
switcheroo, I had a font problem in KDE. (Some fonts took up the whole
screen!) It wasn't fixed for a month. That's "pretty stable?!" Yeah,
whatever.

Since I'm taking the time to respond, I just wanted to say that I think
it will be interesting where things like "White Box Linux" go with their
efforts...

The real reason I'm writing is to say thank you. Thank you for a Ximian
(Novell) guy standing up, calling a spade a spade, and pointing out the
situation with such clarity. SuSE has become what Red Hat used to be. I
see that Red Hat's financials have been good since their changes, but I
don't look for this to continue long term. It seems that their success
was based on their previous practice, and I'm still scratching my head
as to why they'd want to change that. It's geeks like me that put Linux
into place at a company, and if we know and use SuSE on our personal
machines, going to SLES is a more logical decision than Red Hat. I
haven't seen any ISV of significance not support both. (Especially
Oracle, which is coming in on Linux in outlying cases at my company.)

We're starting to watch Linux on the desktop. Can you imagine paying
$150 per machine to switch over? Are you kidding? We can get Windows XP
for less than that. Again, if the desktop is one flavor, servers will
get the same treatment.
