wireless illness

Any help with this XD2/wireless illness will be very welcome.

After starting an 802.11b connection, I see at least these problems:

- Mozilla freezes if I type while mozilla is in focus
(However, I can browse using the mouse until I type something)

- Nautilus hangs forever on startup. No error messages.

- The panel and the rest of gnome eventually freeze.

This happens only under certain circumstances -- the most common,
unfortunately.

Problems occur when:
I boot my laptop without the ethernet cable plugged in and then connect
to a wireless network. The mozilla freeze does not happen if, before
turning on the wireless, I type something into a text box (like the URL
window). I still have the other problems, though.

Problems do not occur when:
I boot with a live ethernet cable connected, unplug it, and then start
the wireless.

I'm running stock XD2 with the latest redcarpet updates e.g. Mozilla
1.4.2 and Nautilus 2.2.4.

I'm starting the wireless network with a script that does this:

sudo ifdown eth0
sudo iwconfig eth1 essid NETOWORK_NAME
sudo iwconfig eth1 mode managed
sudo iwconfig eth1 key KEY_VALUE

sudo dhclient

Thanks,

Scott
