Authentication issue? Is this plain SMTP? Do you need to auth by
SMTP-after-POP?

Does AOL actually use SMTP? According to my /etc/services file, port 587
is "mail message submission".


You can check, if the SMTP server is set correctly by "asking" for
available authentication methods:

At the Sending Mail tab of that account, temporarily enable "Server
requires authentication" for testing purposes only and hit the "Check
for supported types" button. If this does not report any error, the SMTP
server settings likely are correct. Disable "Server requires
authentication" afterward, if not needed.

Well, I don't see how re-booting might solve this...

All your accounts do have different SMTP server settings. Changing any
of them will have no effect to your other account settings.

Like I mentioned: Adding a colon and the port number to the SMTP server
should work, AFAIK. Note, that the above is an example only, as I don't
know the actual SMTP server of AOL...
