Well, I don't know exactly about that file selector in particular, but
IIRC any Gnome File Selector had this possibility for quite a long time:

In the File Selector / Selection input field start typing the name of
the file (if you do know it) and hit <tab>. The Files list will then
only show the files that match the given first string.

To display all hidden files in the File Selector, just enter a single
dot "." and hit <tab>. HTH
