But I'll try and be helpful. Does it only happen when you click on a
link in Evolution, or does this happen whenever you try and use Firefox?

Are you running your own DNS server or proxy that might have been hacked
or which might have simply gone insane and needs restarting?

The only other suggestions I can think of are ugly and brute-force and
will be time consuming, but you could try these: logged in as yourself,
open a terminal and do:

cd ~
grep -R "hoover.com" .* > ~/result.txt
su -
<enter root's password>
cd /
grep -R "hoover.com" .* >> /home/<yourusername>/result.txt

and see if anything suspicious turns up. (There must be a much more
elegant way of doing that.)
