are dictionariy files architecture dependent?

I think sometime ago I saw the note on aspell dictionary files being
architecture-dependent and it looks like rpm's in most distros are packaged
per architecture but I could not find any info on the web about that.
If that's true is would it be possible to make them (let's say in next
version) 'noarch' to simplify packaging?
