Error output to stdout?

Kevin, all,

why does the 'Ispell compatibility script for Aspell' send error
reports to stdout rather than stderr?

Eg:
$ ispell -Z
Ispell compatibility script for Aspell.
Usage: /usr/bin/ispell [options] -a|-l|-v[v]|<file>
$ ispell -Z > /dev/null
$ ispell -v
@(#) International Ispell Version 3.1.20 (but really Aspell 0.50.3)

Is this something addressed in more recent versions, or have I
uncovered a bug that's yet to be squashed?

Regards,
Angus
