Words with underline in the dictionary

I maintain the pt_BR Aspell dictionary as a (con)version of the Myspell
equivalent. I was trying to update the dictionary and found out some
words, or rather expressions with an underline: et_cetera and à_propos.
(How) can I make Aspell understand those underlines as white space?
