aspell not flagging single letters like b, c, d, etc as spelling errors

Hi all,

I noticed that aspell doesn't flag single letters as errors. I tried this using 
v0.60.6 and even tried to set the option "ignore" to 0 (default is 1). Is this a 
bug or something else that I'm missing? Any help is much appreciated.
