Current project status for 2005

It is the end of March, and I have not as yet this year commented on
where Bayonne or other related projects are going for this year.  I will
do so in brief and offer an estimated time line of what I think will
happen in 2005.

Bayonne:

I currently expect a new stable release to be ready for initial testing
sometime late this fall.  This may change if additional resources become
available.

Common C++ embedded:

This is an idea that started from outside.  The basic idea is to have a
configure option to eliminate core dependencies on libstdc++ and thereby
enable production of small footprint alternate Common C++ and ccRTP
builds.  This currently exists as a proposal with no projected release date.

Sheepshead:

This is a new server intended to replace the way tts is currently
handled in Bayonne by directly linking a tts engine plugin.  No
projected release date.

Troll:

Troll is essentially a pure "pstn gateway" that also runs a new routing
language, ripple.  It uses plugin telephony drivers, much like Bayonne,
except each driver also has a rtp stack directly associated with it so
there is no generic switching of audio, to minimize system loading and
maximize performance.  Currently it can initialize itself, instantiate a
driver, and register itself correctly with a sip proxy.  Some initially
usable version of troll may appear by summer.  I may also split off a
new mailing list to support development of Troll in the future.

Unnamed rtsp server:

Yes, there originally had been a rtsp server under some initial
development last year.  It was designed in part to replicate live audio
(and eventually video) feeds that could also be relayed and re-broadcast
over the mbone to non-multicast clients.  The original name for this was
actually bayonne-iptv.  In that other people are now working on somewhat
similar sorts of things, I have not decided if this project will be
continued in some form, or if it will be dropped altogether.
