problem installing gnuchess 5.07

Dear gnu team colleagues!
I tried to ./configure gnuchess 5.07
under ubuntu 7.04 - failed.
./configure works under KDE based knoppix 5.
Would you give me detail commands how to compile and make work this 
program?
