gnuchess compilation error

I have downloaded tar ball of gnuchess-5.07. and I tried to build
using following commands in the extracted directory.
$sudo make ./configure
$sudo make

./configure went fine. but when compiling, It gave following error.

and It stopped there itself.

I am using ubuntu 10.04.
gcc 4.4.3
