gnuchess does not anwer to my first move

Hi,

I have xboard 4.9.1 and gnuchess 6.2.7 running on Ubuntu 4.04.1 LTS

I start gnuchess with

/usr/games/xboard -debug -size Giant -fcp 'gnuchess -x --xboard'

The board appears and I see 
        White: 5:00 Black: 5:00
        starting chess program

After this vanishes, I make my move and see
        1.e4
The Black: counter goes down, finally to negative values, but
nothing else happens.

Is there a fix for this behaviour?


(gnuchess worked for me before I had to reinstall my operating system, so I do not know which versions
I used at that time.)
