gnuchess problem

My environment:
Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
xboard version 4.9.1
GNU Chess 6.2.7

When I start gnuchess with 
        xboard -fcp 'gnuchess --xboard'
I get no response to the first move.

When I start it by 
        xboard -fcp gnuchess
it works for the first move, but to my second move black does not answer.

How can I fix it or what am I doing wrong?
