You can set prequery="Y" for a datasource to start the query on form
startup. Running the query in the background (i.e. while the user does
other things) is not supported by gnue-forms.

Yes, this is meant.

hints.postgresql.txt in the gnue-common documentation directory
(wherever that is in Fedora).

Yes, there is GNUe Designer. However, it is undergoing heavy changes
currently and you might experience problems.
