I'm new too to GNUe and python. I've been last weeks putting up a pair
of forms with nearly production requirements and can say that, apart of
stability problems, the system is fair productive and easy to use, once
you acquire a few concepts.
I suggest you begin with 2-tier mode, that is, using datasources
pointing directly to database backend, instead to appserver, so you can
get familiar with the use of datasources, blocks and master/detail
paradigm.

So am I, though a number of not developer users seem to be needed for
helping them to resolve problems that appear when you know nothing
about GNUe in order to the system be really accesible for new users.
