That makes sense. Sorry I didn't understand the point you were making. The
error doesn't happen if "-xtype l" is removed from the command. So it must be
the case that the "-xtype" predicate is being executed. And it seems unlikely
that any optimizations would reorder an "-xtype" before an "-lname" (both
require a syscall - stat or readlink), and you checked that the optimization
level makes no difference. I should stop chiming in and leave this to people
who actually know what find is doing here.
