Well, you don't *have* to switch to v3 but that's for you to decide, of 
course.

I know this is one of the most "favourite" questions but... Any idea when 
you will make the release? :)

I'm just asking to decide how to proceed on my part - I could prepare a 
CVS snapshot and use that for Gentoo but I wouldn't like to do that. 

On the other hand, I'd really like to get GIFT into our Portage tree as it 
has blocked development in some areas (e. g. parts of KDE).

Thus, any input would be appreciated.
