and as polite as responding to yourself is...
i've noticed a major abberation in this version.
without using the newest GCC with auto-vectorization, i'm still getting my performance improvements.
so, despite the fact that i was optimizing to try to get gcc to auto-vectorize, i failed,
and ended up cache tuning it instead.
so, even without SSE2 enabled machines, i think this version should give you more than a 100% speedup.
a image that takes 2.9 seconds (2.1 user) takes .95ish on mine. ;)
