Seconded. A virtual machine with "stock" XP will need several full days
of running "Windows Update" to bring it up to SP3 + all latest patches.
I know because I just re-created one a few weeks ago using an old XP
install disk.

On the other hand, $dayjob is still using XP. Corporate IT just okayed
to transition to Win7 last month. <g>

The virtual machine images, even the one for XP, come fully patched as
of their date of release. For the XP one I mentioned earlier, that'd be
July 2012.
