I think that the current default value makes sense, especially for
scores with more than a single staff: changing the key is a very
important information, and the extra space helps identify such places.

For single-staff music the value *might* be a bit large, but this is
probably a matter of taste.

Please check the LilyPond Wiki whether your specific problem is
covered.  If not, please submit a new snippet that explains how to
reduce the space after a key signature.
