If so, going that route may be easier than convincing the FSF of the
MIDI Association's software-freedom bona fides. As I am now attempting
to do.

The 0x7C non-commercial ID, I'm reading that it "shall not be used"
for "System Exclusive messages with custom or manufacturer defined
data format."
