In what regard do you consider EBG “not professional grade”?

I never used it “in production”, so I got no experience.

It’s only that some good open source fonts are technically better than 
many Linotype/Monotype fonts that are only half-heartedly converted from 
Type 1 – lacking sensible OpenType features or proper Kerning…

(For typesetting books, I’m a fan of Alegreya Serif, one of the “modern” 
“soft” Antiquas. The early versions had kerning problems, but these are 
long gone.
For lyrics, I usually stay with LilyPond’s default text font that is 
based on Century Schoolbook – not the most beautiful font face, but very 
readible also under bad light conditions.)
