Well, the font has maintenance problems.  The original from Georg
Duffner at

  https://github.com/georgd/EB-Garamond

is basically frozen since more than 10 years, and the list of issues
is quite large.  An improved version from Octavio Pardo at

  https://github.com/octaviopardo/EBGaramond12

also had a hiatus of five years with no fixes applied (and almost 40
issues open), and only recently I see some (non-font) commits again.

Another derived font, however, has a lot of activity:

The only 'problem' is that ChangeLog entries are in Italian :-)

I thus suggest that you give Garamontio a try.
