Thanks! I'd looked for "horizontal alignment" "figured bass" "lilypond"
using several search engines, but apparently the Gitlab issue tracker
isn't indexed by any of them? I'll remember to have a separate look
there in future.

This is indeed an issue I may want to tackle, but seeing the ticket it
looks far from trivial. I'm working on an open edition/reconstruction
of Heinrich Schütz' Schwanengesang, and bass figures on long note
values occur very often in this music.
