The parsing should perhaps tolerate a ' ' and a non-exiing
'(bar)' file then. Since 'lookup_file()' assert's now.

I'm builing the 'gnumake.pdf' and read most there.
There is a mention of this:
  void gmk_get_version (unsigned int *major, unsigned int *minor);

which seems non-existant now.
