My Guile is

	kirr@mini:~$ guile --version
	guile (GNU Guile) 2.0.3-deb+1-2

from Debian testing, and I don't see the problem for test from the
make.info example - it works ok:

Is it that (define ...) or maybe I've misunderstood something?
