Smoking status handling has been added to GNUmed 1.6.rc where status is one among: unknown (not asked so far) "never" smoked current or previous smoker Classification of patients into each group is up to the discretion of the user. Further, a quit date (past or future) can be set, as well as a comment on smoking habits which is to hold narrative such as "2 pack yrs", "1/2 pack a day", "occasional pipe use", "opportunistic shisha use", "heavy work-related cigarette use", "3 previous quit attempts", "reduced under e-cig". GNUmed also tracks a last checked date which allows for QA handling. By default GNUmed offers a dynamic hint when smoking status has never been checked or else when the patient is a) documented to smoke, b) not documented to have quit or plan quitting, and c) last checked more than one year ago. Both hints can (as any other hint) be suppressed in a patient or deactivated for all patients.
