working towards next major release

Dear all,

I am working towards releasing a new major version in the
foreseeable future.

To that end, please do test the current state of things. The
latest code can be downloaded like this:

Unpack, bootstrap a v23 database (or upgrade an existing v22
one) -- being careful not to endanger your existing
in-production database, run the new client and report any
bugs.

You may also run the client against the now-available public
v23 database (but that both shields and prevents you from
finding bugs in the upgrade process).
