Attaching a bug ticket in the commit message

FYI,

If the commit message has a ticket number attached in the MD style of
[#nnnn] the SF display of the history will tie the commit to the
ticket by resolution of the MD ticket number.  Look at my recent
commits in the 4.1-dev branch of the mingw-org-wsl repository for an
example.
