Dmitri has correctly summarized the issue. In a shell, the keystroke
combination "Ctrl-\", or on some keyboards mapped to "Ctrl-4", sends the
SIGQUIT signal to a program which should cause it to stop immediately and
produce a core dump. This is exactly what Octave does.
Marking as "Not an Octave Bug" and closing.
