Follow-up Comment #8, bug #68101 (group octave):
Let me say that I also find it strange to allow a comma at the beginning of
the row. Of course, Octave could deviate from Matlab in that respect. It's
just that I think current behavior is not inconsistent.

It's not that they are not significant. In a row, assuming we don't reach its
end, a comma must be followed by some kind of element and the element must be
followed by a comma (or space, but let's assume it's a comma). But the row
begins at some point and ends at some point too. It can begin with a comma or
with an element, and the same goes for how it ends.

I have not found documentation for this either. Only this
https://github.com/mathworks/MATLAB-Language-grammar/blob/master/Matlab.tmbundle/Syntaxes/MATLAB.tmLanguage
but I don't understand it.
In any case, it's not about empty placeholders, it's about the beginning and
end of a row. Are they allowed to begin with a comma? But I have also not
found documentation about the fact that they are allowed to end with a comma.
It's just that we are more used to it.
