Oh my,
I run line by line and the call to `norm` causes the crash (this is why my
octave is crashing all around!)
octave:10> norm(A - L*L.')
fatal: caught signal Segmentation fault -- stopping myself...
Segmentation fault (core dumped)
I can track the calls down to xnorm but then I am not sure where it goes.
