If I am not mistaken this has been the case for a long time, maybe from around
or even before the time Octave packages support switched from Sourceforge to
Github. ISTR remember it having been mentioned then somewhere, maintainers
forum? -mailing list? Whether it was deliberate or unintended, I don't know.
Apart from that, I'm with you in that this option could be quite handy for
package developers.
