Follow-up Comment #4, bug #68350 (group octave):

I assume you mean older than 25? The octave development introduced some Java
features that are available only in version 1.9 and up. 
So LTS (still supported by Oracle) versions are 11, 17, 21, 25 are all should
be OK.
