Follow-up Comment #3:
The attached patch adds the macro _FILE_OFFSET_BITS to `oct-config.h`. So,
dependencies including `octave.h` would see the same value of that macro that
was used when Octave was built.
I guess that would avoid this issue more generically than manually defining it
in dependencies.
