Best I managed was this:
yes
| ?- *format('~*c~s',[10,32,"Hello"]).*
format('~*c~s',[10,32,"Hello"]).
Hello
yes
| ?- *format('~*c~s',[20,32,"Hello"]).*
format('~*c~s',[20,32,"Hello"]).
Hello
VALUE would be replaced with whatever you want to print at that point,
probably another format specifier. By using * you can alter the width and
the 'c' (with 32) allows spaces to be used as the pad.
