I read the manual again, it says

-L OPTION	Pass OPTION to the linker

so my final attempt tonight would be along the lines of:

~/wrk/prolog/gprolog-1.5.0/examples/ExamplesPl$ gplc -v --fast-math --min-bips -o boyer boyer.pl -L "-L /usr/lib64" -L "-lbips_fd"

It's no concidence that gplc uses -L but I wonder if it means literally, hence trying the arguments in quoted strings.

Try that, I am off to bed... I'll check my emails.... if it comes to it, I could try to install the same libraries and set it up and have a try
