Are you running on a 32 bit operating system ? 
What version of mysql are you using ?

That sounds like an appropriate way to deal with a database, though 
there seems to be some dangling reference.  Can you post your code or a 
test case that replicates the problem ?

I have not used mysql from gprolog for a while, but am interested in 
it's proper operation.

My system is a linux x86_64 platform, running GNU Prolog 1.3.0 and 
mysql-5.0.27, so perhaps we can see if the situation can replicated here
