Yes I know that Linux is an operating system just like Windows. My current s=
etup is that I have Windows at home and am not looking to change it.

What do you mean =E2=80=9Cscreen does this only for command line not graphic=
al desktop=E2=80=9D. I thought the idea of screen was that I can see the scr=
een of my computer at school. Isn=E2=80=99t screen a GUI?

Yes, I can use IDL at home but that is not efficient. All of my data (a very=
 very large amount as I am theoretical) is on my computer at school and all d=
ata analysis needs to be done on that computer. That is where the data is, w=
here the scripts are saved, etc. I need to be able to view the IDL screen on=
 the school desktop from any location. Otherwise, I would have to reload the=
 data (takes at least two hours because of how much there is) and would cons=
tantly be sending myself updated scripts which is the least efficient soluti=
on. Like I said, I am currently using X2GO to access the IDL software on my s=
chool computer, but I cannot be working at school on IDL and then go home an=
d open X2GO to view what I was working on because then there are two session=
s going on and it won=E2=80=99t allow that. Therefore, that=E2=80=99s when I=
=E2=80=99ve had to reload all the data. Not efficient. I need to be able to h=
ave access to something that allows me to view what is on my screen at schoo=
l. Does Screen not do this? My advisor said he uses Screen to look at his de=
sktop.=20

I have been able to get to the part of installing Screen where I=E2=80=99ve r=
an =E2=80=9Cmake=E2=80=9D but not sure what to do once it is installed. How d=
o I open it up? Is there not a graphical interface? Is it just command line?=
 If so, how is that any different than just using ssh? I need to be able to s=
ee visually what is on the screen at school.=20
