One thing I find necessary to get screen working nicely is to put the
following in my .screenrc:

    termcapinfo rxvt-cygwin-native ti@:te@

I still have a few issues with fonts displaying slightly oddly - e.g.
line-drawing characters (in mutt & slrn) work in rxvt, with
term=rxvt-cygwin-native, but they aren't quite right with term=screen.
Not a major issue, and generally everything works fine. btw, I've got
the same experience of using attach - it sometimes works perfectly,
sometimes doesn't.
